I got the historical plates for the 944 this weekend. It’s the week before Christmas, and I’m still driving her. That’s the best car related Christmas gift I think I’m gonna get this year. :)

And I'm almost to the 7000 mile mark!

Here in Wisconsin, any car that’s 25+ years old can get a collector plate.

Early NA Miatas are now 25+ years old, so...

Nice! What’s the age requirement, and are there any mileage restrictions?

26+ years old and only used for events, no grocery runs/DDing/etc. Not sure how he’s planning on managing that one.

Nice! I could still have my ‘72 Ford F100 on the road, but I put it away because I *assumed* it would have snowed by now. We’ve hardly had any salt on the roads (one icy afternoon was it).

For NH you can put “antique” plates on anything over 25 years. I’ve seen 80’s beater chrysler minivans with these plates. HOWEVER, you’re supposed to only drive them limited amounts, like to shows and that kind of thing. Clearly there’s no enforcement. My local town office claimed that the vehicle had to be in showroom condition to get Antique plates. What a load of crap. I went to the State-level DMV and bam. plates. One neat benefit is that over 40 years old, you only need inspections every other year! Fantastic. Plus I never got around to doing it this year, so I’m on year 3 of my inspection sticker. Oops.

Cheers!

Even better - it’s actually only 20+ years, not 25+, and the registration is good for life!

No mileage or usage restrictions, but you can’t drive it in January (no problem) and you can’t make alterations to the body (uh oh). Here’s what they mean by “alterations.”

Anyway, the plate you really want is the Hobbyist plate . Sure, you don’t get that cool weird blue plate or the prestige of having an “original” car, but you do get a plate that the state designates for “hot rods or street rods.” It’s the same plate for kit cars. That’s pretty slick.

I’m going to be getting collector plates for my Camaro some time next year. The best part is that in this state when you have a collector plate you don’t need a damn front plate. Well, that and no need to pay for tabs every year.

No idea, that's how my garage has been since as long as I can remember.

Weird.

Hey, you get anything figured out with that tachometer?

Not yet. I’ve been so busy with school. Now that I’ll be done with finals on Wednesday, and if it actually snows to the point that I have to stop driving her, then I’ll park it to take a look at it.

Simple, no one cares or checks what you’re doing.

I’ve driven the Montego to the store in Michigan with one of those plates, I’ve driven it to work, etc.

I’ve never heard of a cop stopping someone with a historic plate to say “What event are you going to today?”

It helps too that in Michigan we don’t have inspections haha.

26 and older can have the plates (no matter appearance/modifications) we’re only supposed to use them for special events and limited mileage, no one tracks it and no one asks any questions though. Registration sticker is cheap and good for 10 years on historic plates. We can also activate old plates, so I could use a 1968 plate on my 68 Montego

Oh yeah, NH has a ‘Period correct’ plate allowance, too. Has to be the same year as the vehicle and you need BOTH. I actually have a substantial license plate collection, but not a pair of ‘72’s, and I really try not to purchase any plates for my collection. They’ve all come to me as donations. (I only know of one for sure that was ripped off a car by my friend while he was drunk in Italy.)

Yeah, I don’t think Michigan has ever required a front plate and we certainly don’t right now, so we’re all good
